Eliza Learns to Tumble

Eliza has been wanting to try gymnastics for a while but I've always thought she was too tall for the sport.  Then at the end of the school year I heard about a gym that had an unusually tall coach who had been a successful gymnast, and the gym offered a significantly discounted rate for summer classes.  I took Eliza to a trial class and she loved it, so I signed her up.

This was Eliza's only summer activity, but it didn't bother her because she enjoyed it so much.  She progressed quite a bit over the course of the class, as you can see from the video below.  The first several clips are from Week 1, then you briefly see Week 2, and the end of the video is Week 12.  In the beginning, her cartwheels are awkward and by the end she's starting to get the hang of round-offs.  Her jumps and flexibility improved noticeably as well.

She loved tumbling so much that she started cartwheeling everywhere - the library, the grocery store, in the house, on the sidewalk, you name it.  She has also gotten in the habit of showing off her flexibility to pretty much everyone, doing the splits and then pulling her leg up behind her head as often as possible.

Week 1

Week 12

UPDATE: I forgot to include this in my original post.  Eliza brought this worksheet home during her first week of school.  The last one is supposed to say "Let's Do a Cartwheel."
