Everyday Stuff - April 2014 Edition

I know I've shared pictures of Jack hanging out upside down, but lately he's
started playing with cars and trains upside down and even eating upside down.

The Bigs had fun finding bugs and building bug-homes for them one day during Spring Break.

Camping out in the living room.
There was a boy's dormitory and a girls'.

One of my favorite Spring Break moments:
Jack requesting that we watch "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
It's hard to say no to that...

One afternoon we took the kids to Timpanogos Park and Canyon View
Park to just play and explore.  They loved climbing on rocks, playing on the
playground, and hanging out by the Provo River.

Some of Eliza's treasures.  She LOVES collecting rocks.

Cat made some yummy mint lemonade using leaves from the mint plant on our windowsill.
Mmmmmmmm.

A fun night at the new Provo Rec Center.
The indoor pool is great!

I thought it was cute when Luke climbed into the doll bed.

Especially considering this is he in the same bed, one year ago.

During a big windstorm one night Ben and I heard a loud noise outside of our window.
We looked out of the window but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.  The next day we
were surprised to find our chimney in the back yard.  Our neighbors had a surprise, too.
They found one of their large patio umbrellas four houses away, haha.
Tea Party With Liza

Jack played the part of a puppy.  But he was able to transform into a boy
long enough to enjoy tea party food.

Eliza loves to show off how well she balances, hops, jumps,
and does other Big Girl things.

Jack did his first Word Searches this month, and got the hang of them pretty quickly.

Swingin'

Sometimes Jack doesn't want to share with Luke.

Oh how I love this girl.

And this guy.

Game Night!  We played Twister and Guesstures,
made all the more challenging and entertaining because of this little guy.

Luke loves to color on the kitchen floor when he finds a pencil.
Thank goodness it just wipes right off, because The Bigs tend to leave pencils on the floor a lot.

Luke is a great audience!

On a chilly evening in mid-April we planted a small Square Foot Garden
in our little back yard.  It has a variety of plants in it.  We'll see how they do!

Eliza made sure to wear the right shoes for the occasion.

A few days later, Cat and Eliza helped me make markers for the garden.

We borrowed this ladder so that Ben could replace the chimney and the kids
had to try it out.  Then when it came time to put the new chimney up, they got to
take turns bringing him the materials he needed.

The kids helped me make these posters after the October 2013 General Conference.
We talked about the talks during FHEs over the next 6 months and added quotes and pictures to
help us remember the things we learned.  Now it's time to fill up the next set of posters.

Jack finished all of the Kindergarten Take Home Readers (books that gradually increase
in difficulty, which kids are supposed to read out loud three times each night) over a
month before the end of school.  It took some begging on my part to get his teacher to
start sending 1st Grade books home with him, but once she did, he read them very well.
I'm so proud of my little reader!

Yes, that's snow.
On April 28th.

Must be time for Family Scripture Reading!

Luke's Birthday

It always amazes me how one day can make a world of difference.  You're one age, and suddenly, you're an entire year older just a day later.  Kids become completely different without changing at all.  This little guy went to bed as a baby...

...and when he woke up, he wasn't a baby anymore.  He hadn't changed in the night, but with the rising of the sun a chapter of our lives closed.  (What's funny is that Jack expected noticeable changes when Luke turned a year old.  That morning he said, "Luke! Talk!"  and was very disappointed when Luke continued to babble as he'd been doing for months.  We'd told him over and over again that Luke will talk when he's older, after he turns one.  I guess we should've phrased that differently.)

"Good morning, World!  Guess who's all grown up?!?  Me!!"

We didn't do anything too exciting for Luke's birthday, but we did try to make it special by letting him do some of his favorite things.

Eating bananas and kiwi for breakfast.

Playing at the park with Big Sis Numero Dos.

Standing up and playing with the LeapFrog Table.

Talking to loved ones on the phone.  Okay, mostly he listened.

Climbing up the stairs.

Practicing walking with Big Sis Numbero Uno.

Enjoying the contents of the fridge.

Posing for pictures.
(Or, maybe that's one of Mommy's favorite things?)

Taking a bath, post-cake.
We had fun with a little family party for him in the evening.  For dinner we had foods Luke likes - baked chicken tenders, white & sweet potato fries, and strawberries, which we all ate with our hands, Lukey Style.

Eliza isn't in the picture because she was having a tantrum in her room at the time.
It happens.

"Is it time to open presents yet???"

CAKE!!!

"Hmm.  What is this stuff?"

"Not bad."

"Need milk.  Daddy!  Please share!"

Happy Birthday Lukey Chukey!
