Cat's Song-Story

Princesses come in handy
Princesses come in
all things
Princesses want to be a prince
Cause maybe they are too girly

It's too girly, it's too girly,
It's too girly, it's too girly,
And they're too girly for a prince

Too too too girly for a prince

Jack the Wilderness Survivor

Sunday afternoon it was raining here, and Cat decided she wanted to run around in her bathing suit. So we let her do it, on the condition that she stay in the back yard, close to the house. Jack was out playing on the back porch and the adults were inside enjoying a little quiet. After a little while, Cat came inside, then I heard a very faint cry that sounded like Jack, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from. We all looked around in the house and didn't see him, and we looked on the porch and didn't see him. Then I realized that Cat probably either left the screen door open or purposely brought Jack outside without telling us, and that he could be outside in the rain somewhere. So I ran out looking for him, and finally found him in the playhouse part of our swing set. He really wasn't that wet, and wasn't very upset, perhaps he just wanted someone to play with him? But Ben was convinced that it was Jack's survivor instincts that helped him know to climb up into the playhouse where he could be sheltered from the rain. I was just thankful that he didn't go any farther!!

Family Haircutting Session

All of us needed haircuts, so we pulled out the clippers and shears and got to work on Saturday! My sister Susannah was visiting and offered to do mine, which I declined, but everyone else got the haircut they needed, and you can't beat the price tag!

It took two adults and a sweeper-upper to finish up Jack's haircut. (He was in his feeding chair for the first portion.)

After Daddy cut his hair, Jack wanted to return the favor.

This was my first time trying to cut Cat's hair. Having my sister here helped me get up the nerve, but I had planned on taking her to get a haircut, so I figured if I messed it up, I would just take her somewhere to fix it!

I chickened out about halfway through, so Suz finished it. It turned out great!

Cat and the "Dog"

Well, we knew it was bound to happen eventually. Last week, Jack discovered the doggy door in the door that goes from the screened porch (with all the kid things on it) to the living room. And for about 30 minutes he had a blast going in and out, in and out. It was too funny for me to try to stop him. I figured he would use it and play with it for a little while and then do what Cat has done: leave it alone unless someone is over playing and she decides it's time to show it off.

The Bowling Alley Adventure

Cat was invited to her friend Justin's birthday party at the bowling alley on Saturday. Justin is a friend Cat went to preschool with the last two years, and even though we haven't seen him since school finished last year, he still calls Cat his "guhlfwend."

This was Cat's first time at the bowling alley, and she was scared at first because the lights were out for cosmic bowling when we arrived. It took her a while to decide it was okay to put on the bowling shoes and try the bowling out. Justin showed her how to push the ball down the guide thingy, and for a while he would just keep bringing her a ball, put it on the guide, and let her push it down. Nobody else was using that lane, so they just did that for about 15 minutes. Finally, Cat decided she could get her own ball and carry it over to the guide. She ended up having a great time-- I guess it's time for a family trip to the bowling alley!

Jack had a lot of fun, especially once he discovered the arcade. He kept walking away from the party room when we were eating cake and pizza, so that he could play the video games.

New Shirts AND...

What do you think of the new shirts? (No, I haven't finished them yet... maybe I'll do the stitching around the edges one of these days.) Anyway, Jack is very excited about becoming a big brother... in March! (Cat doesn't know yet that she'll be big sister to another little one, so please don't mention it to her. I'm afraid she'll get her hopes up for a sister and then, of course, we'd have another boy. So we'll tell her when we know the sex.)

I've been feeling pretty good, thankfully, and I had my first OB appointment today and everything checked out. We are looking forward to all the new adventures that Peanut #3 will bring!

Hungry Jack

Only Jack and Creed see nothing wrong with eating a raw potato.

Usually Jack gets into this cabinet when I'm working in the kitchen and likes to play with the onions. But last night while I was making dinner he found some potatoes and decided to dig in. I guess he was really hungry! I couldn't believe he got past the dirt taste on the skin to the actual insides. He does love using those 5 teeth he has.

In other news, he has started talking! It's the kind of language that only a Mom and Dad can understand, but it's definitely talking. The one I hear most often is "mi mi mi," meaning "I would really appreciate some milk, or anything else I can eat or drink, right now!"
