California Trail Interpretive Center

We had a great time hanging out with Andy and Amy in California!  After a few days it was time for us to take the kids and leave, hoping A&A still had a bit of sanity left.

During our drive home from California we decided to stop at the California Trail Interpretive Center, which ended up being a fun interactive museum devoted to teaching about the California Trail.

This statue was one of the first things we saw.  It's an illustration of the
expression "seeing the elephant." People used that phrase when they encountered something
they never would have imagined, or something difficult or exciting.

I found this quote from Tamsen Donner, of the famed Donner Party, ironic...

Selling her wares.

Hauling her goods home.

Packing his wagon.

Posing in costume.

Daddy too.

Confused by the fake food and nailed down utensils.

Crayon rubbings.... the wrong way.

Pulling a mini wagon, with drawing in hand.

Trying out period children's games.

We definitely enjoyed this stop more than I thought we would.  It was a great way to get out of the car for an hour, and learn a few things.  If you're heading west on I-80 and need a good place to stretch your legs without having to spend any money, we highly recommend it.  It is right off of exit 292 near Elko, NV.
