A different GC - The Grand Canyon

My grandparents (Oma and Opa) invited us to come down to St. George in October, with an bonus trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  We drove down on a Thursday evening, spent the following day making the trip to the Grand Canyon, then we just hung out on Saturday before coming home on Sunday.  It was a great trip!

My grandparents were quite content to enjoy the view from the lodge.
Can you blame them??

Eliza took in both views... the Grand Canyon and the Great Grand Parents.
(Notice the reflection in the sunglasses.)

While Oma and Opa hung out at the lodge, Ben and I took the kids down a short trail to a view point. Can you tell that I didn't dress for hiking?  The flip flops were a particularly bad choice.  I really didn't expect to do much, if any, hiking. At least the weather was nice!

Cat spotted a village on the other side.  She was sure of it.

This is how the lodge looked from our viewpoint.
If you look closely, you can see Oma sitting on the ledge looking out at the camera.

We all walked back up to the lodge to see Oma and Opa, and Eliza decided to stay with them while the rest of us went on another hike.  We stopped on the way to take a picture of this tree, which is growing right out of a rock.  Pretty cool, right?  Unfortunately, Jack slipped when he was climbing back down and cut his head on a branch sticking out on the ground.  It was bleeding a lot, but we found an extra article of clothing to press on it to stop the bleeding.  Then Ben took Jack to the restroom to clean him up.  Every family has to have one accident-prone child, right?

When we attempted the hike the second time, Cat stayed with Oma and Opa and Eliza came with us. If you look closely at Jack's hair, you can see that he'd suffered a bit of trauma.  At least the bleeding stopped.

This was the view at the end of our second hike.  Just beautiful.

We spent 15 minutes or so trying to get a decent picture of just the kids before we left.
This is the best we could do, haha.

The scenery on our drive home.

We decided to take the scenic route through Zion National Park on our way back to St. George. I don't have any really good pictures because we didn't stop for photo ops, so this is the best I could do.  But of course it was amazing.

We LOVE this beautiful carousel by the tabernacle.
We were so glad to see it open!

And what would a trip to St. George be without a jaunt in the splash pad??
The fact that it was mid-October just made it all the more awesome.

Sunday morning Oma and Opa introduced us to bagged omelettes.
First, you mix all of your desired ingredients in a zip-top bag.

Then you read a book while the omelettes (in the bags) cook in a pot of boiling water.
Then, enjoy!  They really were yummy, and the kids loved choosing their add-ins.

We left later that morning and were SO thankful to get to spend another fun weekend with Oma and Opa!  What a blessing to live so close to them.

  1. I love how y'all live like tourists (in a good way!) wherever you live - catching all the sites and experiences that we locals sometimes take for granted... In fact, I should go back through your blog and re-read everything you did while you lived here to find out what I'm taking for granted :) :) p.s. that blouse is AWESOME!!
