Imagine Arts Contest & Decades Day

Last month the kids submitted their projects for the Imagine Arts competition at school.  They were all excited to be a part of the competition and enjoyed preparing their artwork.  The theme was "Things that Make Me Happy" and it was fun to see what the kids came up with.

Cat's music-themed drawing.
She also re-wrote the lyrics to "My Favorite Things"
for a submission in the literary category.

Jack drew an emoji character.

Eliza drew a portrait of her art teacher, because she says
that Ms. S makes her happy.

The winners were announced last Friday and the school held a root beer float party for everyone who participated.  I volunteered to help with the root beer float party so it was fun to see the kids at school for a bit and celebrate with them.  Luke wasn't a participant, but I gave him a root beer float anyway, when he kept staring at all of the foamy cups before the big kids arrived.

Cat managed to stay out of sight during the root beer float party (since I told her I wanted a picture) but she did pose for me before school that morning, in the 80s outfit she put together herself for Decades Day.  I sent her back to the bathroom for more blue eye shadow two or three times, but in the end I think she had enough (though probably still on the low end).  At one point while she was primping in the bathroom I heard her singing "Video Killed the Radio Star" which made me happy.  And proud.

Cat put Eliza's hair in sponge curlers Thursday night, and
Eliza ended up wearing this little Dorothy costume, so I guess
you could say she chose the 1900's as her decade...

Jack didn't want to dress up for Spirit Day, which was fine with me.
So I told him he could wear whatever he wanted to school.
Worked out great.
