General Conference April 2017

I was only home to watch one session of General Conference with my family, so I only took a couple of pictures.  Cat enjoyed running the shop for the Conference Bucks, and the other kids did a good job of earning bucks, to the extent that Cat started coming up with new prizes they could purchase, such as a movie night with Daddy.  The girls paid attention pretty well and even took notes.  Jack was quiet during most of conference, which was awesome, but he occupied himself mostly with a book he was working on.  He paid enough attention to earn some treats here and there, though.

I didn't expect Jack and Eliza to get very much out of conference, but knew that making it a priority in our family would at least help to establish a pattern for them.  Imagine my surprise when I recognized "we stand up inside" on Eliza's notes.  And the other pages of notes she took are even better than this one.

And the next day, I was talking to Jack and Eliza about what they remembered from Conference and Eliza started to tell me about the woman she heard speak and what she was saying but she was struggling to remember her name.  Jack immediately prompted, "Joy D. Jones!"  So awesome.

We're still adjusting to the changes we've had to make in respect to our conference traditions now that I'm not around very much during conference weekend.  In the past, we've made crepes for breakfast on Saturday morning and we've made doughnuts for breakfast on Sunday morning.  So this year, Ben and the kids got some doughnuts from Krispy Kreme Saturday morning, and I thought we would shift our crepe breakfast to a General Conference-FHE-treat for Monday night.  But we ended up spending Monday evening with cousins, and then I had rehearsal Tuesday, and then Ben worked late on Wednesday, and the I had rehearsal on Thursday, and then we were gone Friday and Saturday nights, so.... we had crepes for breakfast on Thursday.

And we had some conference review time this afternoon.  First we all shared something we enjoyed or just remembered from conference (Jack's favorite part was Elder Stevenson's story about his  father being prompted to help him avoid the rattlesnake) and then we played a game to see what we remembered from conference.  I had 14 multiple choice questions and I put them up on the TV.  The girls and boys each had a team and a little dry erase board so they could write their answers and I could see which team answered first.  Both teams did very well and I was surprised to see how much they enjoyed the game and got into it.  I think this might be a new tradition for us - such a fun way to review some of the things we heard during Conference.
