After watching FSU Baseball with Ben in the Spring, Cat made up her mind that she wanted to play softball. We agreed, once Cat thoroughly convinced us of her intense interest, but I really didn't know what to expect from this sport. Cat is fast, but batting and throwing a ball to a specific spot are skills she hadn't even started to develop. (After all, they aren't necessary in soccer.)
Cat picked up on the skills she needed very quickly, with the help of an enthusiastic Dad and committed coach. Through the season Cat had the chance to play almost all the positions (the major exception being pitcher, which most girls don't play their first year). She was a great infielder and a great batter, and she had an absolute blast on and off the field. The took pride in leading cheers every possible second she was in the dugout, which just made Ben and me laugh to ourselves. (One of the favorites goes like this: Cat is her number..repeat... 4 is her name..repeat... Even though we're messed up...repeat... We're gonna win this game!...repeat...)
The team got off to a rough start - they lost their first game 12-0 - but they quickly improved and ended up finishing the season in 2nd place. Then, they won the post-season tournament! It was a double elimination tournament and our team finished undefeated, even winning the last game 6-1 against a team that was much more competitive and had beaten them earlier in the season.
Cat is the one ( repeat), she's gonna win again and again!
