O Holy Night

Since we had plans to spend much of Christmas Day elsewhere, we decided to have a special family dinner on Christmas Eve.  We had ham with all the traditional trimmings, and it was yummy.  Then Cat used little sticky notes to label everything for Santa, and we read the Christmas Story and sang Christmas Hymns while the kids acted.  The big kids loved it, but Luke wasn't excited about his part.  Can you guess what he was cast as?  After the Christmas story, each of the kids opened one gift, and we let them play with their new gifts for a little while before we put them to bed.

We had a really great Christmas.  Before I would let the kids come upstairs to open gifts, we talked once again about the reason we celebrate Christmas, and said a prayer together.

Once we were all upstairs, we exchanged gifts.  Everyone received some gifts they'd been hoping for as well as some fun surprises.  Each child ended up with a theme.  Cat's theme was Science: she received a big science kit, some experiment kits, and a lab coat.  Jack's theme was Planes: he received several of the Planes toys, as well as a Planes candy dispenser and the movie.  Eliza's theme was Princess: she received two dress-up sets with accompanying toys, and an additional dress-up dress.  She also received 2 coloring sets and some coloring books, so I suppose she had a secondary theme as well.

Our neighbors invited us over for brunch, so we had a great time visiting with them, playing some of the new games the kids received for Christmas, and eating yummy food.  Then we returned home and the kids played with toys for a little while until it was time to go to my cousin's house for a family dinner in the Salt Lake area.  We had fun with my extended family and the adults played a White Elephant game while the kids played with toys.  It was a great day.
