The Rest of Pops's Visit

The last 24 hours of Pops's visit were spent a little closer to (our) home.  On Saturday evening we took him up in Provo Canyon for what turned out to be a campfire-dinner-in-the-dark.  We arrived just before sunset.  When we'd finished our hot dogs, we took advantage of the darkness by playing a few rounds of Ghost in the Graveyard (a hide and seek type game that must be played in the dark) while we were waiting for the Dutch Oven cobbler to finish baking.  The food was great, the game was fun, and a good time was had by all.  To top off a fun night, the Noles beat the Canes soon after we got home!

Eliza (hair done by Cat) helped Ben build up the fire by throwing in twigs.

Due to a miscommunication, we didn't have an ax with us.
Ever the innovator, Pops attempted to use a tire iron to split the logs.
It didn't work.  A for effort, though.

Eliza made an artwork campfire once the big one was going.

Cat was at home in the tree.

Luke stayed parked in a camp chair almost the entire time.
Really, he only moved from that spot when someone was holding him
and playing Ghost in the Graveyard.  He appreciated having a blanket tucked
around him once the sun went down, too.

On Sunday, everyone came up to see Music and the Spoken Word in the Salt Lake Tabernacle.  The younger kids weren't allowed to be in the hall during the broadcast because it's recorded live, so Cat took them to another spot on Temple Square where they could watch the show on a screen as it was being broadcast.

After that we spent a couple of hours walking around Temple Square.  We took a tour of the Conference Center, spent a few minutes in the North Visitor's Center, and poked our heads into the Assembly Hall.  Between all of the sitting required to watch Music and the Spoken Word, and then all of the walking that was required to peruse Temple Square, Jack's legs were overwhelmed.  He didn't have a great time that morning, but we made the most of it.  The rest of us really enjoyed ourselves.

And Dad flew out that afternoon.  It was a fun visit and we're so glad he came.  We love having family and friends to entertain.  If you are reading this, come see us!
