Antelope Island 3.0

We had a great time hanging out with friends at Antelope Island yesterday, for the first day of Fall Break.  It was chilly and windy when we arrived in the late morning but warmed up by the time we did a little hike at Buffalo Point.

The main reason we made the trip was so that the kids could earn their Junior Ranger badges, something we haven't been able to accomplish in the other two visits we've made to the park.  But everyone did met the requirements and happily earned their badges.

When we've visited this park in the past, it's been in the summer for the purpose of taking a dip (or float?) in the Great Salt Lake, and that takes up most of the time we have.  So we've never done much to explore other parts of the island.  It was cool to hike up this little hill and admire the stark beauty of this unique area.  In truth, I didn't complete the 1-mile round-trip hike because Luke was being such a Pouty Pants that I gave up and stayed with him while my friend took the other 7 kids by herself.  Luckily, 6 of them were good hikers and the other one was strapped to my friend's back.

All in all, it was a fun day and well worth the drive.

Antelope Island is known as a fantastic place for birdwatching.
We had fun watching these beautiful Magpies during our visit.
