Week 12 - Closing the Social Distance

I'm not going to use the "SD Week" designation anymore because as of June 1st, our family safety meter was definitely downgraded to orange.  Maybe even yellow.  Many restrictions in Utah had been eased for a few weeks but we stayed pretty strict for two weeks after traveling to St. George for Grammy's interment.

Once that time was up, we decided to still minimize the amount of time we're out in enclosed public places, but to start planning outdoor social gatherings with one family at a time.  Oh, it was nice to start seeing people again.  We also had some fun little adventures as a single-family unit.

We hiked on Potato Hill with Steph and her kids.

Check out that view of the Salt Lake Valley!

A quick little kayaking excursion on Deer Creek.
It was a beautiful evening and great to get out on the water.
We drove around the State Park a bit after kayaking and happened
to see two little foxes!  They were so cute!

We made an appointment to go to the library -
our first time at a library since March 13th.
Let's just say we checked out quite a few books.

After the library we stopped at a hole-in-the-wall gem shop in Orem
to get one of our geodes cut.  We ended up getting a private showing
of the shop owner's private collection of fossils and unique rocks.
Above: a mastadon jaw bone, a stegosaurus plate, and a whale vertebrae.

Luke is holding a meteorite.

The kids wanted to take advantage of National Doughnut Day
so we decided to spread the love and bring doughnuts to our nearest cousins.

A sweet friend who volunteers at Thanksgiving Point gave my family tickets to the farm
when she found out about Grammy.  We went on a chilly, windy Saturday afternoon and
had a great time.  The kids fed goats, turkeys, and ducks; rode ponies; and admired
the rabbits and chicks ("Our chicks used to be that small!").

I wish we could see Cat's whole face in this pic.

I think peacocks are the beautifullest.
