6 Outings in 6 Days

Monday: Hike the Y
We had unseasonably cold weather on Monday so we took the opportunity to hike the usually uncomfortably-hot-and-sunny Y trail, which is also pretty much straight up the mountain.  We were prepared for rain but there was none (Cat saw some snow).  It was a pleasant hike, though we all had chilly fingers and wanted hot chocolate when we were finished.

Luke didn't enjoy that the trail was so steep but hiked almost the entire way by himself (Cat carried him for a minute or two).  The early summer greenness combined with the fog made for some awesome mountain scenery.  We also loved looking down at the valley and spotting all 4 LDS temples in Utah Valley (Payson, Provo CC, Provo, and Mt. Timpanogos).

Tuesday: Geocaching in Pleasant Grove
It was still a little cool on Tuesday when Ben and Suz were back in town and we were looking for something to do.  We decided on geocaching and were successful with 2 of the 3 caches we searched for.  The kids weren't as excited about the geocaching as we hoped they'd be, but when we ran into a couple of women walking a herd of dogs, the kids perked right up.

Wednesday: Biking to a Playground Playdate
We walked/biked to a nearby playground to meet a friend we haven't seen in months - the mom and I had been communicating about a playdate when everyone started social distancing.  It was really great to hang out and catch up.  And to make it even better, we saw a woman who was taking Rufus, her African Grey Parrot, for a walk.  Jack spent a while talking to her and getting the scoop on Rufus.

Thursday: Cousin Playground Playdate
It was so nice to finally have a real playdate with cousins.  And we might have gotten an answer to the age-old question: How many cousins can you fit on a tire swing?

Friday: Walk/Jog Along the Provo River
I asked (mandated?) that the kids join me for a jog/walk along the Provo River.  The older kids were up for some jogging but Luke wasn't interested, so it was pretty much just a walk, but it was still lovely to spend some time outside in the canyon.  I'm constantly impressed by the beauty around me.  They don't call it beUTAHful for nothing.

Saturday: "The Scarlet Pimpernel" at an Outdoor Theater
I've been wanting to see this play for a while so I dragged everyone along when I saw that it was at an outdoor theater this month.  We've missed attending movies and performances in person so this felt like a treat (although everyone was mad at me for not letting them buy anything at the concession stand, insisting they eat the candy I'd brought).  There was a small enough crowd that we felt safely distant from the other groups in attendance, even if we might have preferred to squeeze in somewhere closer so we could see and hear better.  The play was a bit confusing but we enjoyed it anyway, especially the dance fight at the beginning and the funny things Percy and his men did.
