A Very Preschool Halloween

Luke's preschool class had a lot of fun preparing for and celebrating Halloween.  I loved the various craft projects Luke brought home, which included a sparkling spider web and Luke's version of The Big Green Monster.

The teachers put up some great decorations, including turning the play structure into a haunted house (scroll down) and positioning a happy scarecrow on the book counter.

On Halloween, parents were invited to watch a program of festive songs and chants the kids had been learning, then we did a small trick-or-treat together before the kids left for a field trip to perform their songs at a nearby nursing home.

"I'm a mean old witch with a hat.
I ride on my broom with my cat.
My nose is pointy, my chin is too
So you better watch out, or I might scare you."

Letting each child have a chance to stand up to show off his/her costume...
"There'll be lots of leopards, leopards, leopards, there'll be lots of leopards, oh what fun.
There'll be lots of Nevilles, Nevilles, Nevilles, there'll be lots of Nevilles, oh what fun."

The fun of the decorations in the classroom, combined with the fact that Jack and Eliza loved it when
they attended this preschool themselves made it hard for me to get them to leave when we all went to
pick Luke up after school.

P.S. In case you, like me, are thoroughly impressed with the costume of the boy next to
Luke but find yourself wondering what in the world he's dressed up as, I'll tell you.
(I had to ask his mother, then Google it before I was sure.)  He's an Ohmu, which of course
is an enormous invertebrate from the 1984 anime movie "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind."

See?  There you go.
