One night last week as we were about to begin family scripture reading, Eliza and I were sitting together on the couch in the living room. She snuggled up to me and gushed, "I don't want to share you. I just want you all to my own."
My heart melted. What a sweetheart.
The next day, after some conversations with the kids about Christmas gifts, Eliza told me that she wanted a phone. When I told her she would not be getting a phone for Christmas, she wasn't happy with me, and she was very clear about how she felt. She said, "You're so MEAN! You're the meanest Mom I ever HAD!"
Though I knew Eliza was simply venting, directing her frustration and disappointment toward me, I was thankful that the conversation of the previous day was fresh in my mind.

Well, I hope you always remember what a very, very good MOM you are! Thank goodness you are able to be their mom first and then their friend:)
ReplyDeleteI had to smile when I read Eliza's extremes. I think the statement given in a moment of calm was her real feeling:)
