Kids made a list of the top five people they wanted to research. Some of the other people on Jack's list were Henry Ford, Abraham Lincoln, and Beethoven. Jack was really excited to get his top pick, Martin Luther King, Jr., and did a great job of preparing his speech. In fact, he'd written so much for his speech originally that we had to cut it just about in half in order for it to fit in the allotted time. He also memorized it very quickly. He got a kick out of freezing whenever his speech was done, then coming back to life whenever someone pushed his "Civil Rights" button.
My name is Martin Luther King, Jr. and I was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929.
People have known me for fighting for the rights of black people. One day we gathered and started marching for our rights in Washington, D.C. But on April 4th 1968 I was shot and killed.
People know the words I said when I was a kid: someday I'm going to turn the world upside down. And when I grew up, that's exactly what I did. I tried my best to make white and black people equal. And I never quit.
