Our Memorial Day Hike

We had the very original idea of going on an exciting hike on Memorial Day.  We did our morning routine and the kids practiced piano, we got everybody dressed appropriately, we grabbed the camera and some snacks and water bottles, and loaded up the car.  We drove 45 minutes to Diamond Fork Canyon, off the highway from Spanish Fork.  Our destination was a natural hot springs at the end of a 2.4-mile hike.  We were a little nervous about the distance, but still excited.

As it turned out, our idea wasn't very original.  In fact, we couldn't even park within 1/4 mile of the trail head because there were so many people there.  Oops.  So, much to the kids' disappointment, we turned around and headed back out of the canyon, determined to find a different adventure.  And I think the Plan B adventure worked out quite well.

We found a recreational area in the canyon with trails for dirt biking and 4-wheeling and decided to do some exploring.  We walked around for a while, not so much "hiking" as strolling, finding sticks, and enjoying the beautiful scenery and unimaginably perfect weather.  Then we found a little path to the Diamond Fork River and hung out there for a while.  The kids played in the very cold water and squished the clay around in their fingers (and on their arms and legs) while Ben and I stayed happily dry and watched them have fun.  It was lovely.
