Luke's First Month

Luke has been an easy baby from the beginning, and we all fell in love with him right away.  Luke spent most of his first month sleeping, as long as he was held.  The major exception is that he did not like to sleep between 3 and 5 am.  He ended up in the bed with us all night, and we eventually figured out that if we put him on the body pillow and I had one arm around him, he was fooled into thinking that he was being held, and we would all get some sleep.  If we tried to put him down to sleep on his own, he had the best chance of sleeping if he was in the bouncy seat.

I find it a bit ironic that I don't have a single picture of Luke sleeping with me.
Although, let's be honest, even if I did, I'm not sure I'd put it on the blog.

During his first month of life, Luke started getting noticeably chubbier, which Ben and I got a kick out of.  He also gave himself a deep scratch on his cheek (as seen in the "1 Month" photo above) which has turned into a permanent scar.  It makes me think of Inigo Montoya...

Cat was very eager to learn how to change Luke's diapers.  Ben obliged.

My attempt at a cool newborn photo.  This was the one shot we didn't get when
my friend came to take pictures.  Hers are below.

A sweet friend from the MBA Spouse Association offered to take newborn pictures of Luke, which I was so excited about.  I've never done this before, and I thought I'd really appreciate it this time around.  She's relatively new in the photography biz, but I thought she did a beautiful job.  The pictures were taken at our house when Luke was 7 days old.  In the last few shots, Luke is lying down in Eliza's baby doll bed from IKEA.

After all of my anxiety about when Luke would be born and how the months of April and May would pan out, it was so nice just to have him there.  Luke's first month was a busy time, with Ben's graduation, Andy's wedding in California, the end of the school year for Cat and Jack, and trying to begin moving preparations.  We were blessed to receive about two weeks' worth of meals from friends, which was lovely, and really helped me relax.  I tried hard to enjoy my little bundle of joy as much as I could, but the time absolutely flew by.
