Finishing 2nd Grade

Cat had very little pomp and circumstance commemorating the end of 2nd Grade, which seemed unfitting for quite a good year at school.  She enjoyed her new school, made good friends, and loved her teacher.  She was in advanced levels of all of her classes and enjoyed some of the extracurricular activities the school had to offer.  When I asked her what her favorite memories of 2nd Grade are she listed:
  • making a sculpture (all of the kids were asked to bring in some clay to share, and she ended up with lots of colors on her sculpture since the kids traded clay)
  • Asia stations (learning about different countries in Asia)
  • her teacher, Mrs. K
  • learning poems throughout the year
  • making buildings using recyclables (mostly old cereal boxes)
  • being a helper for two classmates whose "brains don't work quite right"
We all joined her on a chilly afternoon for the family picnic.
This was the next to last day of school.

You get a feel for how small her school is from this picture.
Behind us are the only playground and the only school building.

With her teacher.

The night before Cat's last day of school, all of the kids camped out in the girls' room.
This was the beginning of a month of camping out, simply because they wanted to.

We commemorated the last day of school by having a fun family soccer game in the back yard.
It felt odd that it was chilly and rainy, but it was a great way to "kick off" the summer.

One of the hardest things about our summer of gypsiness was that Cat was really concerned about where she would go to school and whether she would be able to attend the first day.  She was absolutely thrilled when we found out (10 days before school started) that she would be returning to the same school for 3rd Grade, and she'd be there in time for the first day.
