Backpacking!

Cat planned a little backpacking trip with her friend Mia in July.  It so happened that a 1/4-acre American flag was being flown in Grove Creek Canyon the day before she was due to leave so we figured it would be a good opportunity to get out and see the flag, and let Cat try out her pack before going on her 8ish-mile hike into the backcountry of the Uintas.  The boys opted to stay home but the rest of us enjoyed checking out the huge flag and enjoying a nice evening outside.

Cat left early the next morning to meet up with Mia and another friend, Kylie, for the trip.  She loved being out in the backcountry, hiking and spending time with friends and enjoying the natural beauty.  The experience made her fall in love with Utah even more, and made her more determined to enjoy the outdoorsy opportunities this beautiful state has to offer.

Unfortunately, the evening before they'd planned ot leave, Kylie fell and got a cut on the back of her head.  They hurried to hike back to the car as quickly as they could - Cat walking slowly with Kylie and carrying as much of her stuff as she could, and Mia staying behind to put things away at their campsite, and then catch up.  The cut was bleeding a lot and they didn't know the extent of the damage, but were happy that Kylie stayed conscious and was able to walk and carry some weight on the way back to the car.  They drove to the hospital in Park City and were seen quickly.  It turned out to be a minor cut, but I'm so glad they were smart enough to take it seriously, just in case.
