Shakespeare Competition

Cat has been THRILLED to be a part of her school's Shakespeare Competition Team.  They've been practicing their scene (Julius Caeser, Act 1 Scenes 1 and 2) since the beginning of the year (since last year for the returning members of the team) and last weekend they went to SUU in Cedar City to compete.  They left early Thursday morning and rehearsed in St. George all afternoon.  On Friday, they did a lot more rehearsing, and by the time they performed at 7:20, they felt prepared, and they did a fantastic job.  They received almost exclusively positive comments from the judges, and they were proud of their performance.  In the end, they placed second overall for the Middle School competition.

Cat was cast as a wealthy wife and I had a great view of her throughout the performance.  She and her husband were one of four couples on stage, and were told by the director and several others that they were the best couple.  (Unfortunately, it wasn't an entirely happy marriage as Cat felt smothered being stuck with this guy the whole time - atta girl.)

I drove down to Cedar City on Friday to bring Cat home for General Conference and a soccer practice the following morning.  This made it possible for me to see the scene, and I'm really glad I did.  I have a much better appreciation for the whole process now.

I love that Cat has started to get into drama this year and that she's enjoying it so much.  And, as a side note, I want to be sure to record here that Cat paid the $200 for the trip herself through fundraising, babysitting, and just saving up the money she earns from us each month.  Go girl!

Yes, all 75 middle schoolers in this picture performed with the group.
