V-Day

We had a pretty fun Valentine's Day celebration.  The weekend before V-Day, I made Peanut Blossoms, but swapped the kisses for heart-shaped Dove chocolates (thanks, Pinterest).  These were for our neighbors, and my cousin who babysat our kids while Ben and I went on our V-Day date.

Eliza volunteered to be my taste-tester.

I took Jack and Eliza to a little V-Day party with MBASA where
they had fun decorating cookies and making Valentines for Daddy.

The night before V-Day we had our good friends the Smiths over for our traditional fondue dinner.  We also did a FHE where we all wrote down things we loved about other family members on little hearts.  I liked ours so much that I taped them to the dining room wall.  (Confession: it's now almost Easter and they're still there.  It might be time to adios them, but I think they're really sweet.  What do you think?)

When I was growing up my parents giving my siblings and me little gifts on Valentine's morning.  I love that idea, but of course didn't want to spend any extra money, so I made a Valentine for everyone, gave them each Valentines from the other kids, and made little necklaces (using Hershey kisses I'd bought on sale after Christmas and have been keeping in the freezer).  They found the surprises when they woke up in the morning.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a sucker for a good holiday-themed celebration.  I just can't help it.
SO even though we'd already had our traditional V-Day dinner the night before, I just had to recognize the holiday on the day of.  So, we made little heart-shaped pizzas for everyone.  It's a little tricky to shape pizza dough this way, but I still like the way they turned out.

Eliza got hold of some Pop Rocks and thought they would make a good topping for her pizza.
She was in for a bit of a surprise...

I just realized that almost everything in this post has to do with food...
Yes, it was a yummy Valentine's Day :-)

  1. Love all of your great ideas! Especially the cards from the other siblings and necklaces for V-Day morning. Remember when Mom used to make those German cookies on string with our name in frosting to wear? How special!
