St. George Island, part 1

On Christmas morning we woke up early enough to leave the house at about 5am to fly to Florida.  It was fun to see the new SLC airport, which just opened this fall, but it  was practically dead when we got there (which, of course, was still very early in the morning on Christmas Day).

Do you recognize the Christmas movie reference?

I realized the girls and I were accidentally creating another Christmas movie
reference when we got Chinese food for lunch in the Atlanta airport.

We finally arrived in Tallahassee!
The boys are pointing to the area where we would be spending the weekend.

Due to an error with our rental car reservation, we spent about
2.5 hours at the TLH airport before finally heading to the beach.

Once we were finally all together at the beach house, Mema and Papa
opened a couple of presents we brought them for Christmas.  Ben picked
out this pretty Willow Tree for them.  They also gave each of us a cool
St. George Island t-shirt for Christmas, to help us commemorate our weekend!

Vacation means staying up late, crowding 3 to a twin bed,
and watching YouTube on a phone.  Luke missed out on the fun
because his eye was hurting, so he'd gone to bed already.

Our first day on St. George Island was chilly and windy, but we tried to enjoy the beach anyway.  Most of the group walked down to The Cut.

It was lovely to sit comfortably on the lounge chairs on the balcony,
even when it was chilly out.  Mema also brought a cool seashell picture
frame craft, and she and Eliza did a great job on their frames!

And there was fishing,
which included catching a 2'-3' sand shark
and Jack finding out how not to throw it back.

Cat and I went on a bike ride, which was beautiful and fun
and the cruisers were much more comfortable than our bikes at home.

Eliza loved drinking pink lemonade
out of the stemware.

We went back down to The Cut right after sunset to enjoy the dramatic colors.

That night we had a yummy spaghetti dinner, then we all watched the new Pixar movie, Soul, which we really liked.
