Cat was a team captain and played point guard. She improved a lot as a player this year. She was pretty well coordinated last year but didn't make a lot of baskets. This year her shooting was much better, and I'd say she made about 50% of her shots.
Whenever I brought the younger kids to one of Cat's games, I hoped they'd sit with me and work on their homework while I watched the game. But usually, they bolted to a far-off area of the gym, often bringing their homework with them but not actually doing it. On good days, they would find one of Cat's friends and hang out with them. I felt a little bad that Cat's friends had come to watch the game and ended up talking to their friend's siblings instead. They didn't seem to mind, though. As for Eliza, it had both good and bad outcomes. There was one game that Eliza amazingly completed an entire math worksheet while sitting with one of Cat's friends. She claims he didn't tell her the answers, but she certainly finished it much faster than normal in such a distracting environment. But at a game at a different school, Eliza was talking to another of Cat's friends and when the game was over completely forgot to grab her backpack. She didn't realize it until we got home, so I had to turn around and drive back to American Fork to retrieve it. Kids.
