Adventures in Gardening

We spent the weekend of March 13th at Ben's parents' house. It has become a family tradition that we get together to help Mema & Papa plant their garden every spring. Catherine was very helpful with planting green beans and marigolds. She made sure to change her clothes whenever she got dirty, so she had worn three outfits by lunch time. It's a good thing she had packed so well!

We finally planted our family garden on Saturday, March 21st. Yeah! We didn't get started until that evening when Ben got home from work, so it was kind of chilly, but we were able to work hard and get it done. We had to move our large box from the back yard (where the plants weren't getting enough sun) to the front, and Ben built two more small boxes. We prepped the soil, outlined the squares, and even planted everything we could. Catherine was eager to dig in the dirt with her new Dora work gloves and did a wonderful job of helping to plant the seeds and planting the small sunflower plants that her preschool class started. Jack was happy just to hang out and watch all the action (except for all the gnats that kept bugging him). Just wait until next year, Jack. You'll be able to get all dirty too!

  1. Hey! Joe-Z wants Ben to call him and tell him how he built those grow boxes!

  2. It was so easy... literally 8' lengths of 2x6 lumber cut and nailed together at the corners. But I'll have Ben call Joe-Z. :-)
