New Year, New Adventure - Snowshoeing

We continued our New Year, New Adventure tradition this year, enjoying a brand new experience on New Year's Day. In the past, we've gone snow tubing (2020), gotten up close and personal with dolphins (2021), and seen Cirque du Soleil (2022). On January 1st we tried snowshoeing as a family and it was really fun! We've had tons of snow this winter, so we didn't have to go too far to find a place to try out this cool winter activity. We tried to get to Big Springs but parking there looked too iffy, so we ended up parking at South Fork Park and just walking around there for a while.

We saw some wild turkeys on the road:

In the time it took everyone to get their snowshoes on, Luke made a new friend.
(Well, someone else made the snowman, but our kids had fun with it too).

I think Liza was the first one to fall down on purpose.

Then Luke.

And I'm pretty sure he spent more time horizontal on this little
expedition than he did vertical.

The snow was so beautiful up there.

Yes, she's pushing his head into the snow.

He didn't mind.

Final verdict: we all really liked it, and would be happy to go again. We didn't get very far in our walking because the kids spent a lot of time falling down intentionally or pushing each other into the snow (which was perfectly harmless since there was so much snow), and we also spent a fair amount of time trying to get a family picture we could put on the wall in our family room. But I'd like to have a repeat adventure and see how it goes actually trying to get a few miles in. I love being up in the snowy mountains.
