St. George Day 2: Snow Canyon and More

On Saturday we went to Snow Canyon to do some hiking.  First we walked on the Sand Dunes, with the kids running, making sand angels, and getting partially buried.  It was so cool to feel the warm surface and the coolness of the sand just beneath.  We also thought it was so cool to see the different animal tracks in the sand!

Then we met up with my uncle and two aunts at the Pioneer Names, then we went to the Petrified Sand Dunes.  It was great to hang out with them and chat while we enjoyed the beautiful weather and incredible scenery.

One more fun thing before we left Snow Canyon: the boys re-enacting a bit from
a movie they saw for the first time while we were driving to St. George Thursday night...

We picked up lunch and met again at a park with picnic tables and a fun playground.

Then we said goodbye to the aunts and uncle and drove to a cool antique/consignment store my aunt has been telling me about for years.  It was fun to finally check it out, and the kids loved the old toys, such as the jumping spider Luke found.  Jack sat at the typewriter for a while, while Cat and I perused the clothes.

Then it was a little more pool time, in a warmer pool than the day before, with Cat joining in this time.  Lots more fun when Cat is around!  We enjoyed breakfast for dinner at Cracker Barrel.

The closet came in handy when kids woke up early in the morning and wanted a place to go that wouldn't disturb the late-sleepers.

On Sunday morning, while Ben was in the lobby picking up breakfast, it was fun to snuggle up with all the kids while we watched "Music and the Spoken Word." Things quickly unraveled when he got back to the room.

We stopped at my aunt and uncle's house on our way out of town so I could pick something up from them, so it was nice to see them one more time.  We took this picture as we were leaving their house - ready to enjoy the treat we picked up at the Cracker Barrel gift shop, perfect for the drive home.

We knew a cold front would be coming in over the weekend, and we saw more and more snow as we headed north: it snowed lightly on us while we were stopped for lunch in Cedar City, and the dusting on the mountains turned into dustings in the valleys, which turned into full-on snow in Utah County.  The mountains were white near our house but the snow had melted from our lawn by the time we got home.
