Talking in Primary

Jack and Eliza gave talks in Primary the last two Sundays, on the same topic: Jesus Christ helps me to Choose the Right.

Eliza:

Jesus Christ was an example to me. He helped me to figure out what to do on earth. He gave us a choice to choose the right or to choose the wrong. He lived a perfect life and I hope to live a perfect life like Him. In 3 Nephi chapter 27 verse 27 it reads, "Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am." I want to try to be like Jesus and have a perfect life like him.

Jack:

When Jesus lived on the earth 2,000 years ago, He healed the sick, He taught the Gospel, and He had the first sacrament, which is very important to us.  Remember this scripture from John chapter 13 verse 15: “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.” This teaches us one of the reasons why Jesus came to earth.  He wanted to be an example.  An example is “when you do something you want others to do or when you show people how things should be done.”

We can follow Jesus’s example by reading the scriptures and learning what He did.  We can teach the Gospel like Jesus did.  We can help other people.  We can partake of the sacrament and invite other people to church.  We can be kind to others.

I bear my testimony that I know that we can do the right things by following Jesus’s example.

Note: These talks are shorter than talks they've given in the past, but I've recently been converted to the benefits of brevity when it comes to Primary talks, not because my kids can't put together a longer talk (with a little help) or deliver a longer talk, but because it seems that the majority of the Primary isn't interested in listening to anything longer than 30 seconds for Junior Primary or 1 minute for Senior Primary.

  1. These talks are wonderful. I just came from the Temple and I think Jesus is well represented in both talks.
