Where to sleep?

The house we're living in now has a master bedroom and two additional bedrooms.  The boys have shared a room since the beginning, but even though Cat's room is big enough to share also, she has had her room to herself.  As we were getting settled here back in September, I started to put extra blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals in the Harry Potter Closet, which is next to the playroom.  I thought it would make a good reading area or hideout for the kids, but Eliza immediately claimed it as her room.  Okay.  You can have it.

She's mostly been okay with it, but occasionally complains that she doesn't have a "real room." It seemed worth it, though, to keep her in that room because when she got upset and wanted to be alone and was able to go to her little room without worrying that someone would barge in on her.

We let the Bigs have Sibling Sleepovers frequently on the weekends, so they all sleep in Cat's room on those nights and are comfortable being together.  Toward the end of the school year, Eliza was getting more and more vocal about wanting to sleep somewhere other than her little room, and we thought it might be time to put her and Jack together.  After all, they both prefer to have some light on at night, and they both like to have someone with them when they're going to sleep.  We could find another spot for Luke - the Harry Potter Closet, perhaps?  So we talked to Jack and Eliza and they both thought it was a good idea to sleep together.  That first night, Eliza brought her pillow and blankie to Jack's room and was getting settled on the (double) bed, when Jack walked in and was not happy about having Eliza in his bed.  She immediately insisted that she did NOT want to sleep in his bed, and would, of course, be sleeping on the floor.  As if.

So she slept on the floor.

For a few nights.

Until she decided she'd rather sleep on the floor in Cat's room.

So she's been sleeping there for the last several nights.

Tonight Cat and Eliza got in a fight, at which time Cat, for some reason, decided she'd sleep in Eliza's Harry Potter Closet.  Eliza was really upset about this, screaming that she wanted to sleep in her room!  And she definitely did not want to sleep in Cat's room alone!  So guess where she is tonight?  Yep.  Back in Jack's room.  Only this time, they decided they could share the bed.

What's funny is that we will have an extra six people staying at our house this week (5 of whom are adults) and the kids will be giving up their rooms, so none of them will be sleeping in any of their normal spots.  (Though, I suppose the Harry Potter Closet will be available?)  I'm thinking they'll end up sleeping in a fort in the playroom.  We'll see.

  1. Oh my, that girl. It's hard to be little and big at the same time. Gotta love her!
