BYU Hockey

Last weekend, I attended my first ever BYU athletic Event.  Honestly, I didn't really have the opportunity to go until this event, but I also didn't seek opportunities.  I think I just don't feel like BYU is important enough to me to go through the effort of getting tickets and either arranging babysitting or dealing with kids who aren't interested in watching whatever the event is.  Plus, I'm a Seminole.  It's hard to root for another team.  Call me crazy ... it just doesn't feel right.

Anyway, now that we're 3 months from Ben's graduation, we finally attended a BYU athletic event together.  (Ben has been to some, and brought various children, but this was our first as a family.)  We decided on this game because it was free with the passes we bought, and I just wanted our kids to have the experience of watching a hockey game while we're in a hockey region of the country.  And, yes, they had the whole experience.  Plus, it was on a Friday night and we were looking for something fun to do with some friends.

The kids sat down and watched the game for about half of the first period.

After that, they explored the unoccupied portion of the bleachers and watched the game...

They cheered.

They hung out for a while.

And once Jack had worn himself out watching, cheering, stomping, and hanging,
he decided to lie down in the middle of the walkway to take a rest.

He got up to watch the Zambonis work their magic between the periods though.

And all of the kids paid attention to what was going on on the ice
when two players decided to throw down.
They threw down their sticks, their gloves, and their helmets.  Literally.
And they fought for about 5 minutes before they were ejected from the game.
The next day Cat said to me, "BYU hockey players are better at wrestling than they are at hockey."
It's true... they lost to Weber State, 8-5 and have a losing record overall.

Cat was too busy playing with her friend when we were ready to leave
halfway through the third period, but we snapped a quick family photo anyway.

  1. Go Cougs!!!

But seriously. Why switch loyalties? Especially when it would mean cheering for a losing team a lot of the time... there. I said it ;)

wonder if that BYU player said "fetch" or "flip" at any point during the throw down...

ah... my sleep deprivation is showing..

    Go Cougs!!!
