Summer Fest

The second weekend in June was Orem's Summer Fest.  We found out this summer that most towns in our area (and maybe the whole state?) have some kind of summer festival.  There is Strawberry Days, Steel Days, The Lindon Round Up, Days of '47, the Freedom Festival, the Llama Fest, and so on.  We saw the carnival being set up for the Summer Fest a few days before the big event because it was so close to the house we lived in.  The kids kept begging to go, but we were nervous about even trying to go because of how much it would likely cost.  In the end, we broke down and told the kids that we had a $15 budget.  We could play or eat or whatever they wanted, but once we spent the money, we would leave and there would be no more.

You know what?  We stayed for 2 hours.  And we only spent $14.  That was enough to buy tickets for us to ride a few rides and to get a snow cone and some cotton candy.  Gotta love Utah.

Cat and I were the first to ride anything.  She was a little nervous about the swings ride but ended up loving it.

1 - Everybody is so excited to be on the boat ride!
2 - Wait a minute.  Jack changed his mind.
3 - Cat and Eliza are so excited to be on the boat ride!

1 - What could be cooler than a motorcycle ride??
2 - Oh.  Not so much.
3 - Get me OFF of this thing!
4 - Cat and Eliza had fun.

Biker Chicks.

So, after two failed attempts to get Jack on a ride, he said he wanted to do this little obstacle course thing and Ben joined him.  Jack considered it a race.  Who's going to win??
1 - They started out together
2 - Jack took the lead through the big punching bag looking things
3 - Jack rounds the corner at the upper level ahead of Ben
4 - Jack is on the rope bridge.  Ben is nowhere in sight.
Good job, Jack!  But where is Ben??

Oh, good.  He's okay.  I guess he just wasn't interested in winning the big race.

After we rode on a few rides we stopped for some snacks.

Ready for a little treat.

Then we ate our snacks while watching this fun rock cover band perform songs such as "Working for the Weekend" and "Sweet Home Alabama."  It was so fun.

Just as entertaining as the 60 year old lead singer in tight red pants was the 80 year old dancer right beside the stage.  He was gettin' down.  Awesome.

We thought our fun was over then, but on our walk back to the car, we saw some emergency vehicles parked so that the kids could explore them.  Now Cat has an idea of what it would be like to drive a fire engine.

Probably the highlight of Jack's evening.

The whole evening just reminded me of something out of a movie about the 50s or 60s.  Who knew this stuff still existed.  A cheap fair located right in the city center park where families and teenagers go on a Friday night to have some fun.
Twilight zone...?  Hmm.

  1. Okay - lots of things:

    1. That picture of you and Cat on the swings belongs blown up, black and white where she can see it every day. I seriously got a little teary-eyed looking at it; and yeah, I'm pregnant, so take that with a grain of salt. (especially if you could photoshop it so the background is blurry so it really makes you guys stand out)

    2. Ben's beard is so cool and scholarly looking.

    3. Isn't it funny how you moved from one time warp (the south) to another (utar)? (insert snide snicker)

  2. Dude!

What ARE you feeding JACK?! That little boy is HUGE!! Seriously, STOP IT. It was just the other day that he was this darling little squirrely boy who came to my house to play and now? NOW he's ENORMOUS! Enough already. Cut him back to half-rations, whatever you have to do to keep him small!

  3. Oh what fun! I'd say back to the 50s. As a little kid, the swings were my favorite ride:)
