Looking Back

A friend of mine puts together a montage-style video for her son for each of his birthdays as a way of looking back over the previous year. I love this idea and thought it would be a great year-end activity. So, I tried it out, and... it definitely wasn't the quick and fun project I hoped it would be. But, I love it anyway. (BTW, any of you out there who have done this more often than I, I'd love to hear your tips! I'm talking to you, Melissa, Christina R., and Andy. Just to clarify.) :-)

2010 was a challenging year for us, but putting this video together was a wonderful reminder of the many ways we've been blessed. We watched it together on New Year's Day and it felt great.

The song is "I Am a Child of God," performed by Insideout a capppella.

And, sorry for the awkward silence at the end. I couldn't time the music and slides quite right, and the auto-fit feature wasn't working. :-(

  2. You did great!

    What I do:
    1) Pick the pictures
    2) Pick the music
    3) Edit the pictures down to fit the music. Though I know that other people just edit the music together with something else to lengthen it out.
    4) Add any effects you want, like fade ins or outs.

And that's it! I use Window's MovieMaker and it's pretty easy. But I also start a folder just after the Boy's birthday and that way I can move pictures in all year long rather than having to spend 3 weeks leading up to his birthday frantically sorting through all of the pictures.

Isn't it so fun? I just love it. I love putting it all together so you can see the little changes and remember all the fun rather than the stress.

  4. I'm sorry. I have no tips!!

I've only made a video once. The timing is really tricky, isn't it?

You did a great job though!
