Back to School

The kids started school the morning after we got back from Orlando.  It was a pretty crazy morning.  The younger kids all started going to a different charter school with different uniform regulations, so I made sure to acquire the correct uniform pieces before we moved, and I collected everything before we went on our trip.  What I didn't collect before our trip was backpacks.  I had completely forgotten to find everyone's backpacks, so there was a frantic last-minute search of boxes to try to find backpacks before school started that morning and I wasn't 100% successful.  But the kids made it to school that day, and I found the backpacks soon enough.

8th Grade
Cat is now able to walk to and from school, which is great,
since she prefers to be nice and early and the rest of us aren't
good at making that happen for her.

5th Grade
Jack wasn't happy about going to a new school, and still
doesn't really like the school with it's higher academic
standards and his lack of friends, but he's hanging in there.

3rd Grade
Eliza also wasn't excited about changing schools and doesn't
like that the new school has "more rules," but she's made some
good friends and loves her teacher, so we're thankful for that.

Kindergarten
Luke put real shoes on before we left for school on the first day.
He dislikes school, mostly because they "do so much math"
and he finds it boring but he's learned a lot already.

Another one of Luke just because.

A bonus picture of the younger kids just before I dropped them off.

This fun sign was in front of the school for the first day.
I also love Luke's First Day Headband.

There's a bit of a learning curve when a 5-year-old begins
wearing a belt every day.

In other news, Cat got braces on the second day of school.  She'd been looking forward to this day for years and was pretty excited that it was finally time.  She was really sore for a few days but mostly hasn't had a problem with the braces.  Her orthodontist said she should have them on for about a year and a half.  Here she is before, during, and after the appointment:
