Brace Faces

Liza was anxious to get her braces on and we finally got her in to start the process at the beginning of the school year. We were in for a bit of a surprise when we found out that, after having two kids with uneventful orthodontic journeys, Liza's treatment would be a little more involved. First of all, we found out that she'd need to have an appliance spacing out her top teeth for several months before she could get braces on her top teeth. She'll also need to get her wisdom teeth out in the near future because the bottom ones are literally growing in at a 90 degree angle, keeping her other molars from growing properly. That procedure will happen at the beginning of the year.

Pre-appliance & braces.

The orthodontist made a mold of Liza's mouth and customized the appliance
for her. It is fitted in the roof of Liza's mouth. It's pretty uncomfortable and food
gets stuck in it, but she tolerates it well.

As we were making appointments for Jack to wrap-up his treatment and
Liza to begin hers, it turned out the timing was kind of awesome - Jack got
his braces off the same day Liza got her lower braces on.

Checking out those sparkly gadgets.

Braces halfway on!

Look ma, no braces!

Since Jack had two dwarf teeth next to his front top teeth,
our dentist (in the same office as the orthodontist) built those
up in two visits.

Checking out the results of the second tooth being fixed.

What a great smile!
(No braces, and evenly-sized teeth)
