Last week's CFM material made for some great object lessons as we discussed Christ's teachings during his ministry in the Americas. One of these lessons included a treasure retrieval exercise, where we talked about "treasures in heaven" (3 Nephi 13:19-21) then everyone found an item that represented a spiritual treasure: scriptures, pictures of the temple, etc. This idea came from the Ensign.
We also had refreshments during one of our morning lessons: unsalted bread. Jack was the first to detect the inferior flavor and spat out his first bite, refusing to eat any more. Once everyone had tried it, I gave them some appropriately-salted bread and we discussed what it means to be the "salt of the earth" (3 Nephi 12:13). (This one was my idea.)
We also used an idea from The Friend, to scatter cotton balls on the kitchen table and give each person a straw and have them blow the cotton balls to the middle of the table. We placed a miniature Christus statue in the center of the table, and the cotton balls represented scattered sheep we were helping to gather (3 Nephi 15:21).
Then on Sunday, we watched The Testaments. Luke got really into it and donned some scripture dress-up.
I am really enjoying studying The Book of Mormon with my family. Preparing and teaching the lessons makes my personal study more meaningful, and it's great to have regular gospel discussions with Ben and the kids. The kids often surprise me with their knowledge and insight. It's such a blessing.
