Sheepdogs & Fast Cars

I've been wanting to check out the Sheepdog Classic in Midway for a long time and this year we finally made it happen! Dogs and handlers from across the country and British Columbia competed at Soldier Hollow (where some Olympic events were held in 2002) to see who the top dog is. Each Border Collie had about 12 minutes to complete all of the tasks described here, herding sheep who had never been worked by dogs before. Handlers directed dogs using a whistle and voice commands from a vantage point in front of the judges. The whole thing was very impressive and so fun to watch.

There were concurrent activities throughout the day. We loved the Duck Herding demonstration, with dogs moving ducks through small gates, into tunnels, up a ramp and into a wagon, and then into a pen marked "jail," again following the directions of the handler.

Sheep are kind of funny-looking...

Did you know that some sheep grow more than 2 horns?

We had just enough time at home to shower and get cleaned up (it was warm and sunny in Midway!) before heading out again for a special appointment: we picked up our long-awaited Tesla. We'd been on a waiting list for about 9 months and I'd started to change my mind shortly before we were due to take possession, but Ben was adamant that we needed to go ahead and get the car and try it out for a few days. The kids were pretty excited too.

Yes, I was nervous to drive it.

Ben spent a lot of time sitting in the car
trying to figure out how everything works.
