Last year, one of Cat's teachers started talking to her about the milestone of Cat scoring her 100th goal. This teacher, who is known for having strong opinions and communicating them clearly and unapologetically, told Cat that she'd have to score her 100th goal at a home game, and that she would be there with balloons. With the 6 goals Cat scored in the season opener while I had the other kids in St. George, her total was 98. The next game was the home opener, right before school started, the same night as Back to School night. Considering who the opponent was, Cat knew she'd have the opportunity to score at least once, maybe twice.
There was a good crowd there, and Cat definitely felt some pressure, but she didn't show it. She scored the first goal quickly, and when her second goal went in later in the game, the crowd went wild! You might want to turn the volume down before you watch this video, since the screaming is pretty loud:
My favorite thing about it is that everyone was so supportive. The referee knew in advance that Cat would likely be scoring her hundredth goal and even told them before starting the game, "I understand there might be some celebrating today!" After the goal, he gave Cat the game ball. Her coach released confetti. The teacher gave us balloons for Cat, as promised. Robert brought her a candy lei and made her a crown. We made signs and brought cupcakes for the kids to pass out. And lots of family and friends came just to show their love and support. It was such a fun moment of celebration for all of us.
It was really fun to see Cat's name in the Deseret News too! Check it out HERE.
