Confectionery Creations, Daddy Claus, and A Video Concert

Our sweet little nephew suddenly needed to go to the hospital Saturday night a couple of weeks ago, so Cat and I went to their house to stay with his older brothers.  We spent the night and hung out together on Sunday, when the boys educated us in the ways of Risk, Dungeons & Dragons, and Nerf Battles.  Then we all came back to our house for more cousin fun and cookie & gingerbread house decorating.  Suz and her family came over too and helped a lot with dinner and confectionery activities!

We did something this Christmas we've never done before: we let the kids each choose their own Christmas sweater/sweatshirt.  And since I knew we wouldn't be able to get our traditional Santa picture I arranged to borrow a Santa suit from our friends and let Ben get all dressed up.  (He wasn't happy about the idea, but he went along with it because I was so excited.)  So, one evening I told the kids to don their Christmas tops so I could take a picture of them, then they were surprised by Daddy Claus walking out of our bedroom door.  Honestly, they thought it was weird, especially at first (Cat actually hid behind the coats on the coat rack), but it turned out to be really fun!  Ben got overheated pretty quickly in the costume, but other than that I think he secretly enjoyed the experience.

We usually put on a little Christmas concert for friends and neighbors but didn't want to assemble a group in our home this year, so we had a Zoom concert for family instead.  My niece on Ben's side also had the idea of compiling a virtual Christmas concert with videos from anyone who wanted to participate, so we performed live for my family, then sent video recordings to Dayna to include in the larger concert.  It worked out perfectly!  Below are the separate videos we sent to Dayna. Notice Luke's contribution was an improvised puppet/finger puppet bit.  He'd been working on a beautiful Christmas song for weeks but at the last minute decided he didn't want to sing, so he opted for the skit instead.

It was so lovely to sit back as a family on Christmas Eve and enjoy the full compilation video Dayna made!  We felt all warm and fuzzy and happy.
