Box Fort, Baby

One more fun thing that happened the first week of August was that we helped build a world record-breaking box fort!  A friend of ours (our piano teacher's husband) put on this cool event to raise awareness for a mental health nonprofit he'd just established.  The kids and I signed up for a shift one afternoon and had a great time working on this cool project.  Our first assignment was to spray paint shapes of ourselves in one of the rooms (the "fort" was more like a maze with each section being painted by an artist or group).

When we were finished with our first assignment we did various things: painting, building walls, forming boxes, and moving boxes from one spot to another (the boys in particular enjoyed loading boxes up on a cart and moving them to another part of the space).  Suz ended up bringing Whit, too, which made it even more fun!  It was also great to just walk around this huge room and see the maze and the artwork.  I'd scheduled our shift at the end of the day on the last day of building so that by the time we left, the project was pretty much finished. The final tally was 12,592 boxes.

P. S. This song popped into my head pretty much every time I talked about going up to work on the box fort, the entire time we were working on the box fort, and every time I've thought about it since:
