General Conference Weekend

During our CFM lessons we talked a lot about Joseph Smith, The First Vision, and the Continuing Restoration in the week leading up to General Conference, which really helped me get into the right mindset.  Cat was working on this Restoration Medley and I loved hearing her play it all week.

On Friday night I took a fun idea I heard on "Don't Miss This," to make a cake with 200 candles to celebrate 200 years since The First Vision.  Eliza had been wanting an opportunity to do fondant, and she did it all, making it from scratch, dyeing, cutting, and then using the pieces to decorate the cake.  Ben used a torch to light all the candles, and afterward the top of the cake was a big melted-wax gloopy mess.  But the non-waxy parts were delicious.

The TabChoir was warned at the beginning of March that we would be making recordings to be used at General Conference "just in case," so I was prepared for the fact that we might not be performing live.  It didn't surprise me when that email came.  But we didn't get to do all of the recordings we wanted to do, so I was disappointed about that.

I was excited to be home with my family for Conference though!  I loved having a more relaxed weekend, sleeping in and then going for a jog, making yummy food, and hanging out with everyone while we watched the 5 sessions together.

I saw these gals in my nextdoor neighbor's yard after my Saturday morning jog.

Between sessions...

On Sunday we all wore Sunday clothes for the Solemn Assembly and Hosanna Shout.  It was so cool to all be together, in our home, participating in that beautiful virtual gathering of Saints all over the world, recognizing the blessings of The Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It was a great weekend - relaxed and uplifting; delicious in both the literal and spiritual senses; part chaotic and part peaceful.  We enjoyed the messages, the music, and the special features of this commemorative event.  And the announcement of a temple in Tallahassee was the icing on the cake!

One of the musical highlights for me was this wonderful compilation that ended the Sunday afternoon session.  We in the choir knew a little about this video but seeing it put together for the first time was still an emotional and beautiful experience for me.
