Ms. Felix's feathers started growing back!
It was really cool to see them coming in.
On the same day, we started finding eggs from Waffles.
It's fun to have our first white eggs - I'm looking forward to
saving them up in March and dyeing them for Easter!
We were so pleased with Felix's progress, and then she was attacked yet again. This time she was in the neighbor's yard. We're not sure if she flew over the fence, or crawled under it, or if Coda came into our yard and carried her off.* But our backyard neighbor told Ben that one of our chickens was with Coda in the other yard, and sure enough he found Felix with Coda, looking like she was trying to play with her. Felix had a few more wounds and this time we kept her completely separated from the rest of the flock for a few days. We brought her inside** and kept an eye on her for a few hours until we could borrow a crate from Lindsey. After that, Felix stayed in the garage until she was healed enough to go back to the backyard.***
Jack insisted on keeping Felix in his room, where she seemed to appreciate the quiet. She got a good nap. |
* This isn't the first time a chicken has been in the wrong yard, but it was the first we heard about it.
** It was unforunate that the one time we had a live, bloody chicken on our kitchen table was also the one time Cat had a big group of friends come over to all get ready for the Homecoming dance together. Surprise! We're weird.
*** When Felix finally went back to the yard with the other chickens, the roosters wasted no time in showing her how happy they were to see her. She seemed to want to go back into the garage after that.
