Yes Day!

Since Grammy liked to do Yes Day with my kids, I've decided to continue the tradition by having Yes Day on or near her birthday.  This year her birthday was Memorial Day, so we were still in Colorado and then driving home in the afternoon.  The next two days we had piano, gymnastics, PT, etc., and we needed to recover from Colorado and get the house ready for guests to come Thursday evening.  I also knew we wouldn't be able to have a Yes Day that included all 6 of us for several weeks because of the things we had on the calendar so we decided the best option was to have a bit of a shortened Yes Day (until 6) that Thursday.

I gave the kids a budget and they made some fun plans, and we also had some flexibility.  We started the day lazily, reading a pertinent book, then watching Mr. Popper's Penguins, a good option since Luke and I had just read the book (which is almost nothing like the movie) together.

After that the kids requested we play mini golf, which was really fun!

Next we had lunch at In-N-Out Burger.  Then we did some shopping - to the mall for a while, then to Target to prep for the evening's activities.

Even though I'd planned to end Yes Day when cousins arrived at dinner time that evening, the kids found a way to keep it going for a while.  They used a big chunk of their budget to buy supplies and prizes for a series of one-on-one competitions with aunts, uncles, and cousins: ice cream eating, arm wrestling, sloth-hanging, and more.  It was really fun!  And we found out that Andy is really bad at arm wrestling - both Sawyer and Luke took him down pretty quickly.

Yes, it was a really great Day.
