Gingerbread Houses

Even though I make gingerbread every year, and we decorate gingerbread men every year, I've never actually done gingerbread houses just for my family, in any form.  We've been lucky that most years we get to do them at school, the library, or, as was the case this year, thanks to a friend.  One of the moms in our ward playgroup offered to construct gingerbread houses made of graham crackers for any kid in the playgroup who wanted to make one.  Yes, please!  Each family was asked to contribute a bag of candy to the decoration buffet.

I was impressed and a little surprised that Jack was as into the decorating as he was.  And thank goodness nobody minded that he felt the need to decorate his house with 4 large candy canes.

He didn't do nearly as much of this as I thought he would.

Finished product.

Eliza, on the other hand, did a lot more of this than actual decorating.

But there was a little bit of decorating going on too.

A very little bit.  This was what her house looked like when she finished, even after I helped her out a bit.

At least we know she still had a good time.  No hiding that chocolate grin!  BTW, if you ever wonder what Eliza looks like on the days when I don't do her hair, now you know...

Cat worked on her house diligently.

All done!

What a fun activity for all of the kids during Christmas break. I wonder where we'll do houses next year?  :-)

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun! And I really like the headband Cat's wearing.
